Winnipeg to Churchill, Manitoba Canadian Rail Tour. August 7 - 15, 2017

The North Shore Scenic Railroad and Rail Travel Tours have teamed up to offer this once-in-a-lifetime experience to enjoy a roundtrip guided tour package on Canada's most northern passenger train, Beluga Whale viewing, unique attractions, tours and much more.

The tour this year will celebrate both Canada's 150th Anniversary of Confederation and the 300th anniversary of the origins of Churchill, Manitoba and the first 10 bookings, when on the tour, will get a copy of the book 100 YEARS OF CANADIAN RAILWAY RECIPES

Day 1 begins this comprehensive package with your independent arrival in Winnipeg for a planned tour, starting at approximately 3:00 pm, of the Hudson Bay Company fur trade post and National Historic Site - Lower Fort Garry followed by a welcome dinner and overnight in Winnipeg at a hotel located across the street from the train station.

Day 2 will start in the morning with checking luggage at the station followed by a tour of the Winnipeg Railway Museum located right in the station.  Board the train prior to the mid-day departure to view your sleeping car space before enjoying lunch in the dining car prepared fresh by VIA Rail Canada’s onboard chefs. CONFIRMED AGAIN  FOR THIS YEAR there will be a domed observation or Park Car as part of the train to enjoy the passing scenery.  Also enjoy dinner on the train as you continue north and overnight on the train. 

Day 3 still travelling north awake to have breakfast in the dining car with views outside of the forested Canadian Shield and perhaps some time to stretch your legs during the extended stop in Thompson, MB and a planned tour of this city including the Heritage North museum here. Lunch and dinner will also be enjoyed on train prepared by the VIA Chefs and again overnight on the train continuing to travel North. 

Day 4, this morning the trees outside have become smaller and fewer as the views changes to stretches of Tundra.  Enjoy breakfast on the train before the morning arrival in Churchill, Manitoba.  First there will be a tour of the town and area including views of the town’s most Northern point of Cape Merry overlooking Hudson Bay.  Today will also feature a group visit to the Eskimo Museum with displays of soapstone and other art work then a welcome to Churchill dinner of Arctic Char and reception at the hotel we are staying at and overnight. 

Day 5 spends a better part of the day will be taking part in a Beluga Whale viewing boat tour that also features a visit to the opposite shore line from the Town of Churchill and the Fort Prince of Wales.   There also will be a visit the Parks Canada Visitor Reception Centre inside the restored Churchill Train Station for a heritage presentation here before enjoying dinner and a second night at the hotel

Day 6 will be some free time in the morning to shop some of the local souvenir boutiques followed by an afternoon tour of exploration along the Hudson Bay coastline searching for elusive summer Polar Bears.  Following this will be dinner back in town and boarding on the southbound train where you can watch for the northern lights from the dome car. 

Day 7 have breakfast, lunch and dinner and more views from the train will be enjoyed for the southbound trip.   

Day 8 will be the last day of the train arriving back in Winnipeg in the late afternoon and again overnight in Winnipeg.

Day 9 Awake refreshed in Winnipeg before your return home.
